MARIETTA, Ga. — The preparation is nearly complete. For Charly Jovani Vazquez, Saturday night is about taking everything developed behind closed doors and putting it on display when the bell rings.

Vazquez is scheduled to compete Saturday, October 3, at Southeast Showdown, a boxing event presented by Apex Promotions Entertainment at the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta, Georgia. The Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission lists the event for October 3 at the Civic Center, while Cobb County lists Southeast Showdown beginning at 5 p.m.

The current fight card has Vazquez matched against Ricky Evans in the 147-pound welterweight division. FighterTix lists Vazquez at 0-0-0 and Evans at 1-9-0, putting Vazquez opposite an opponent who has already experienced the professional ring.

For a fighter at the beginning of his professional journey, that experience matters.

But records only tell part of the story.

Built Away From the Lights

Before there are crowds, announcements and cameras, there are rounds most people never see.

The road to fight night is built through repetition: footwork, defense, conditioning, combinations and countless rounds spent learning how to remain composed when the pressure increases.

Vazquez recently gave The Undisputed South a glimpse into that process.

In the gym, there was no need for theatrics. Wrapped hands, controlled movement and focus told the story.

Saturday is where that preparation gets tested.

There is a difference between looking sharp in training and executing when another fighter is standing across the ring with his own plans. That transition is part of the development of every young professional.

For Vazquez, Southeast Showdown provides another opportunity to begin establishing exactly what kind of fighter he intends to become.

A Night for Georgia Boxing

Saturday's card also puts another spotlight on the growing boxing scene in Marietta and the greater Atlanta area.

Lugo Boxing and Fitness, a long-established Marietta boxing program, is part of that local ecosystem. USA Boxing records identify the gym at 3300 Canton Road in Marietta, and the current Southeast Showdown card includes multiple fighters listed under Team Lugo.

That distinction is important: Apex Promotions Entertainment is the listed promoter for Southeast Showdown, while Lugo Boxing and Fitness has fighters connected to the card. The official listings do not identify Lugo Boxing as a co-promoter of the event.

Events like Southeast Showdown give developing fighters a stage close to home while giving local boxing fans an opportunity to see talent before those names reach larger platforms.

Vazquez now gets his turn.

From Preparation to Performance

By fight week, most of the hard physical work has already been completed.

There is little left to prove inside the gym.

The objective becomes staying sharp, making weight, remaining composed and arriving on fight night prepared to execute.

When Charly Jovani Vazquez steps through the ropes Saturday, the drills stop being drills.

The combinations become real.

The defense gets tested.

The preparation meets resistance.

And another chapter in his professional journey begins.

The Undisputed South will be following the action as Vazquez and the fighters competing at Southeast Showdown take center stage in Marietta.
